Articulating Boom Lifts - Reach Up, Out and Over
A telescopic boom goes where it points. An articulating boom bends in the middle, which means it can go up, over a parapet or a roof edge, and back down to the work on the far side. That single difference is why this category exists: the jobs it suits are the ones where something is in the way — a canopy, a machine, a flower bed, a mezzanine floor — and the access route to the work is not a straight line from where the machine can stand.

What decides which articulating boom lift you need
Reach and obstacle clearance rule the machine in or out. Power source decides whether it can work where you need it.
Working height
Working height is platform height plus normal operator reach — check which figure a spec sheet is quoting. Add horizontal reach to see the full area covered from one parked position.
Up-and-over clearance
This is what an articulating boom gives you that a telescopic one doesn't — the height of an obstacle the arm can clear on its way to the work. If nothing is in the way, you're paying for reach you won't use.
Platform capacity
Capacity is everyone and everything going up together — operator, tools and materials, not headcount. Check platform size too: a rated weight on a small platform runs out of room before it runs out of capacity.
Battery-electric
No exhaust and low noise mean indoor work in occupied buildings is possible — confirm the floor can carry the machine on upper levels, and check charger voltage against your site supply.
Stowed size
Folded dimensions and tail swing decide the transport route and how close to a wall the machine can turn — measure both before assuming trailer access is enough.

Buying Guide: How to Choose an Articulating Boom Lift
1. Up-and-Over Height Is the Reason to Buy This Type
Working height and reach matter, but a telescopic boom gives you those too, usually more
cheaply. What only an articulating boom gives you is up-and-over height — on the
AL1415, 6.54 m. That is the height of the obstacle the boom can clear on its way to
the work. If nothing is in the way between the machine and the job, you are paying for
articulation you will not use. If a canopy, a roof edge or a machine is in the way, no
telescopic boom will do it at any price.
2. Working Height and Horizontal Reach
The AL1415 works to 14.15 m — platform height 12.15 m plus normal operator reach
— with 6.83 m of horizontal reach. Measure from where the machine can actually stand,
which on a constrained site is rarely directly below the work. The horizontal figure is
what covers the gap between the parking spot and the job.
3. Where the Machine Has to Work
This is where the power source decides everything. The AL1415 is battery-electric,
on a 48 V / 310 Ah pack driving a 3.3 kW travel motor and a 5 kW lift motor. No
exhaust means it works in occupied buildings, warehouses, plant rooms and atria where a
diesel machine is simply not allowed. Low noise means it works at hours a diesel machine
cannot. Charging is from any 100–240 VAC supply at 13.5 A — an ordinary socket, not a
special installation.
4. Tail Swing and Working Close to Structures
Tail swing is 130 mm. That is how far the counterweight sweeps beyond the chassis
when the turret rotates, and it decides how close to a wall, a rack or a parked vehicle
the machine can work without a spotter. The turret rotates 355° — not quite
continuous, so plan the approach rather than assuming infinite rotation.
5. Platform Capacity, and What Two People Actually Means
230 kg on a 1.17 × 0.76 m platform. Two people with light tools, or one person
with materials. The platform itself rotates ±85° and the jib swings ±80°
vertically, so once the operator is at the work they can present themselves to it without
repositioning the whole machine. Automatic platform levelling keeps the deck flat
throughout.
6. Getting It to Site and Around the Site
Stowed, the AL1415 is 6.16 × 1.5 × 1.92 m and weighs 7100 kg — trailer transport,
not a van. On site it travels at 4.8 km/h, climbs 30%, and turns in 0.8 m
inside / 2.3 m outside radius. Ground clearance is 200 mm. Check the transport
route and the floor loading before delivery, particularly if the work is above ground
level.
